Interesting analysis of the latest campaign. Hate to say I know a few *women* who express the same kind of comments as the male rape apologists in her example. As a feminist I always find it disturbing when I hear women ‘joke’ around rape. 

You just do not want to know how overstretched the counselling services are in Scotland partly dealing with rape victims, state funding is much better now than it used to be 10 years ago but still many voluntary sector agencies are left picking up the pieces and with the current (and worsening) squeeze on Local Authority spending some support services are always using up precious time scraping around for funds to continue. You only need to look as far as “Service restrictions at Women’s Support Project” to get an idea of the cutbacks - now some services are having to pick and choose what kind of victim to support or reduce staffing or opening hours, jeez.

My mum used to work with women affected at what used to be the Centre for Womens’ Health (now the Sandyford), sometimes the women haven’t gone to police/rape support services at all in complete shock/ashamed and can break down *many* years later when they reveal the abuse in the past. Deeply sad.
