Harper: There must be some mistake here. I don’t recognize you. Are you my… - some sort of imaginary friend? Prior: No. Aren’t you too old to have imaginary friends? Harper: I have emotional problems. I took too many pills. Why are you wearing makeup? Prior: I was in the process of applying the face, trying to make myself feel better. I swiped the new fall colours at the Clinique counter at Macy’s. Harper: You stole these? Prior: I was out of cash. It was an emotional emergency. Harper: Joe will be so angry. I promised him no more pills. Prior: These pills you keep alluding to… Harper: Valium, I take Valium. Lots of Valium. Prior: And you’re dancing as fast as you can. Harper: I’m not addicted. I don’t believe in addiction and I… I never drink and I never take drugs. Prior: Well, smell you, Nancy Drew. Harper: Except for Valium. Prior: Except Valium in wee fistfuls. Harper: It’s terrible. Mormons are not supposed to be addicted to anything. I’m a Mormon. Prior: I’m a homosexual. Harper: Oh. In my church, we don’t believe in homosexuals. Prior: In my church, we don’t believe in Mormons.

Lip Service

Have finally watched ep 1 of Lip Service.

Good:

  • Cat & Tess,
  • Glasgow (but where’d they find all they skinny people,The Apple Store?),
  • realistic first dates.

Bad:

  • accents-Ed’s is so bad it reminds me of Scotty in Star Trek.
  • boring L-WORD clone “I  look at a woman and 2 minutes later I’m in her knickers” Shane-ey-ness of Frankie even down to the bloody photography.
  • And what’s with the shaky camerawork-is that to make it ‘edgy’ and ‘modern’, when NYPD Blue did it it was different and new but oh, give it a flipping rest now.
  • Nearly switched off at the first scene, just plain laughable in its unsubtlety, got to pay off the male wankers watching early I guess, I sentence the director to watch Gia 1000 times and learn how to do an erotic scene involving a photo shoot.
  • And as for the funeral home scene at the end, ugh, just nasty, unnecessary.

Still OF COURSE I’LL KEEP WATCHING! it is my lesbian duty to keep watching in the interests of science ;-)

#real-tragic-love-life-story: dated a cop once…and exactly once. She was from Edinburgh and talked at length about dealing with dead bodies from bridge jumpers at Waverley. Um yes so I guess I did actually “make my excuses and leave”. LOL

Editor appointed for STV Local →

Interesting to see they’ve bagged themselves Iain Hepburn - he knows online inside out, great content and has a sense of humour. Will be very interested to see what STV come up with in their move to hyper-local news.

Also today there was a small fire at Ninewells hospital today, saw at least two BBC, one STV one print journo contacting tweeters for permission to use their photos. Great idea but in the BBCs case sad that that means they don’t have reporters/photo journalists who could be in Dundee to capture it themselves at the time. Get the impression that if it’s outside the central belt there’s no real BBC coverage, they just paraphrase what other outlets are saying. Just so frustrating to watch BBC Scotland ebb away to the point where they are aggregators rather than reporters.

Jimmy Reid: full coverage of his funeral →

I am delighted to see that  STV are actually starting to ‘get’ online content in a way that BBC Scotland seem to still struggle with. Here’s STV providing something that they’ve already filmed and edited-only excerpts appeared on the news and they’re reusing the material as an asset on the web, obviously it’s hard for them to put this sort of thing on the TV network due to length but great for them to release it to the public and tap in to the ‘long tail’ of people like me interested in Scottish material. As well as an episode of Jimmy’s documentary series they’ve also put a couple of shows from their archive featuring the great poet Edwin Morgan who also died recently. Last time I looked there were 12 Facebook ‘likes’ for the JR funeral so they’re starting to get the hang of integrating the social media side of things on their video site too. Bravo STV. Moar! Moar!
